My previous research focused on the performance of agricultural product markets and its welfare impact on farm households in Sub-Saharan Africa. I used time series econometrics to analyze price transmission between domestic crop markets in Burkina Faso, examined how market performance affects the adoption of yield-increasing technologies, and applied quasi-experimental methods to estimate the effects of agricultural production on farm households' food and nutrition security in Burkina Faso and Madagascar. I also studied intrahousehold resource allocation, using collective household models to examine how economies of scale in household consumption and the sharing of resources among members affect the measurement of individual-level poverty in West Africa.

My current research topics:
- Intrahousehold decision making. Using a collective household model, I study how spousal bargaining and household structure (monogamy versus polygyny) shape the efficiency of decisions on human capital investment and the allocation of resources within rural households in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Gender gaps in agriculture. I use farm household survey data to examine the factors that determine gender productivity gap, crop portfolio choice, and gender differences in sale prices in Burkina Faso. I also use the Ethnographic Atlas, GIS data, and instrumental variables to trace the historical roots of the gender wage gap in West Africa.
- Culture and child marriage. I link Murdock's Ethnographic Atlas to DHS data to test whether ancestral marital norms predict child marriage in Sub-Saharan Africa.
