APLセミナー（アジ研パワーランチセミナー）は、アジア経済研究所の研究者のみならず、外部の研究者、学生の方にも参加いただけるリサーチワークショップで、お昼の時間にアジア経済研究所（海浜幕張）の会議室で開催しています。

研究所内外における研究者が研究成果、研究活動の中間発表を行うほか、発表者と参加者、あるいは参加者相互のディスカッションを行います。テーマ、講師に応じて日本語あるいは英語での発表、議事進行となります。

It is widely acknowledged that the Southeast Asian countries have been successfully achieved a certain level of industrialisation and maintain their status as one of the top producers and exporters of agro-based products such as palm oil, natural rubber, coffee and other agricultural items. Our research defines that “agro-based industries” cover a wide range of activities from cultivation and process to marketing and reuse of agricultural products. We focus on the performance, development mechanism, lessons and perspectives of the industries, aiming to derive and establish the “Agro-based development model” in the context of development economics.

The agro-based industries in Southeast Asia demonstrate a remarkable performance of their industrial development. They started simply from raw material exporters but gradually upgraded themselves as large scale manufacturers of higher value-added agro-based products, making themselves as international leaders of agro-based global value chains. However, the performance of upgrading differs from country to country and also from industry to industry. Based on these facts, we examine the following questions; what caused such a difference of the performance? Did the successful development of manufacturing industrialisation contribute, directly or indirectly, to the agro-based industrialisation in the Southeast Asian region? What is the driving force of cross-border dynamism of agro-based global value chains? Our findings and examinations are based on our four year fieldwork in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia from 2016 to 2019.
