Studies based on Geographical Simulation Model (IDE-GSM)
Outline
The Institute of Developing Economies - Geographical Simulation Model (IDE-GSM), which provides long-term predictions on the geographical distribution of population and industries primarily in the Asian region, will be implemented as an ongoing analytical project. This project aims to actively promote its application while enhancing its academic and empirical validity. IDE-GSM has been continuously developed since 2007 and has been used to evaluate the economic effects of international infrastructure development plans through collaborative research with organizations such as ERIA, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries. IDE-GSM, with its core being a general equilibrium model based on spatial economics, is unique, particularly in Asia. It has the distinctive feature of being able to estimate the economic effects of large-scale infrastructure development relatively easily. Through joint research with external institutions, we will contribute to deepening discussions on appropriate development policies by calculating the economic impact of infrastructure-related projects, geopolitical tensions, FTAs/RTAs, and US tariff policies that are becoming increasingly important globally, especially in the Asian region
