Empirical Analyses of Culture: Impacts of Culture on Individual Behaviors, Attitudes, and Subjective Well-being
Outline
In this research project, we empirically examine the effects of culture (values, beliefs, norms, patterns of thinking and reactions shared by a certain group) on individual behaviors, attitudes, and subjective well-being (SWB) such as happiness. Each member will write an empirical paper on their respective theme, with the aim of publishing it in a peer-reviewed journal. Specific themes of the paper include: (1) cultural differences in time use and its effects on SWB (with particular focus on East Asia), (2) the effects of culture on views of happiness (with a particular focus on Uzbekistan), and (3) the effects of culture on individual attitudes toward refugees (with a particular focus on Turkey).
