Platform for Business and Human Rights: Responsible Business Conduct and Sustainability Policy’ (2020_3_60_001)

Outline

In light of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) and Japan’s National Action Plan (NAP) based thereon (launched October 2020), we will operate a platform to foster discussions between researchers, practitioners, government officials, business people and experts. Further, we will create constructive opportunities for knowledge and opinion-sharing, as well as conduct surveys and research projects regarding the following:

(1) Supporting companies, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises (including information sharing and seminars, guidance formulation, identification of the issues that companies are facing.)

(2) Monitoring policy and practice trends in the implementation of UNGP in leading states and institutions, Asian nations, and international organizations, investors, and industries’ activity (including movements to formulate NAPs in Asian countries)

Reviewing the NAP based on issues clarified through its implementation, and formulating policy proposals such as the need for new policies
