Business and Human Rights: Study of Japanese Corporations and the Challenges Ahead and a Policy Proposal for Responsible Business Conduct and Sustainability (2019_1_10_004)

Outline

This project researches how Japanese businesses should integrate respect for human rights into their core operations and how Japanese companies can realize corporate social responsibility and supply chain responsibility, and proposes how the Japanese government can support such thinking in its policies and measures. Our focus is on policy measures in trade, investment, and development assistance, given the significance of labour clauses and sustainability clauses, and we also feed useful materials for the process of the creation of a National Action Plan by the Japanese government based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We aim to function as a platform for discussion with the Japanese government and relevant international organizations regarding the relationship between business and human rights issues, including RBC, sustainable and inclusive supply chains, and sustainability for policy proposals.
