Outline

Social institutions and norms may be seen as a form of social capital or technology, which thus affects economic development. By addressing the following topics, this research project aims at improving our understanding of the mechanisms sustaining social institutions/norms, as well as their socio-economic roles. (1) Village vigilante groups in Tanzania (2) Female labor force participation and social networks in South Asia
