China's "New-type Urbanization" Policy and Economic System Reforms

Outline

This research project will study the ongoing Chinese policy of “New-type Urbanization". The purpose is to examine the policy as an economic development strategy and an urbanization process in certain cities. Through this work, the members will assess the progress of China's economic system reforms. The urbanization of China is not only a natural process of modernization and industrialization, but it is also an enormous reform of its planned economy system, which still has a rural-urban divide. The project members will study the aspects of urbanization in their own specific field of regional development, labor migration, environmental issues, etc., and the project as a whole aims to clarify the policy's effect and problems in judging the progress of economic system reforms.
