FY 2016/2017 Research Topic: A-2
Connecting ASEAN and South Asia

Outline

This study examines several aspects of the economic relationship between ASEAN and South Asia. The pro-democratic political change and ongoing economic reforms in Myanmar in recent years is one of the factors that rebooted the attempts to forge closer economic ties between the two mega regions. This study gives special emphasis on the recent development of regional cooperation frameworks in the regions such as GMS, SASEC and BIMSTEC. The study also covers connectivity issues, including land bridge projects and maritime transportation, between the regions.
