Firm-level empirical analyses of supply-chain in Latin America
Outline
The U.S.-China trade war, the replacement of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and heightened geopolitical risks stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war have created new circumstances that can be described as a restructuring of globalization. However, research on the impact of the restructuring of globalization on supply chains in emerging countries remains limited. This research project focuses on Mexico and Chile, which are two Latin American countries that have actively pursued integration into the global economy. The objective of this project is to prepare for micro empirical analysis in subsequent years to analyze the impact of the restructuring of globalization on domestic and international supply chains in both countries, using firm-level microdata. For Mexico and Chile respectively, this project will conduct a literature review on this theme, identify available microdata and the variables therein, search core hypotheses for the research questions, and plan the architecture of datasets for the analysis.
