Water management and sustainability in the modern Central Asia
Outline
This study sheds light on the dynamics and structural components of Central Asian societies. Despite the impacts of evolving political landscapes, societal transformations, and natural environment, these communities have continued to adhere to their water usage traditions. The study offers a unique perspective by focusing on those involved in water management. With an emphasis on the oases in the Amu, Syr, and Zarafshan basins, which are the three major rivers in southern Central Asia, over an extensive timeframe spanning from the 16th century to the present day, we will diachronically discuss the sustainability of water administration practices and the open and closed natures of human networks underpinning it.
