Transformation of public perception on entanglement between Islam and politics in Indonesia
Outline
This research aims to analyze societal perceptions of the relationship between Islam and politics in Indonesia based on data from the latest nationwide survey. It examines whether the analytical frameworks related to Islam and politics, traditionally used in Indonesian area studies, as well as comparative political theories surrounding the relationship between religion and politics, are still applicable in the modern Indonesian context. Over the 25 years since democratization, the relationship between Islam and politics, especially in the context of elections, has become increasingly significant. As such, it is of utmost importance to update our understanding of the general societal perceptions on this matter. Through this analysis, this research not only seeks to contribute to Indonesian area studies but also to explore the potential theoretical implications in comparative political studies based on the findings from the case study of Indonesia.
