Business Alliance in Iran-The Function and Organization of the Chamber of Commerce(2022_2_40_009)

Outline

Private sector companies in Iran, regardless of capital size, tend to avoid vertical and horizontal integration and shy away from forming strong business relationships with each other. Historically, there has been little research on the formation of so-called “business alliances” (i.e., cartels) and the joint actions of companies to restrict competition. To explore the background of this phenomenon, this research project focuses on the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, the first modern trade organization in Iran, analyzing the history of its establishment and its original function. Moreover, we will analyze the function of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, which is the successor organization of the Chamber of Commerce, and clarify the characteristics of inter-company relations in Iran.
