The long-term effects of civil war in developing economies(2020_2_40_014)

Outline

This research project will examine the long-term impact of civil war on society and the economy in developing countries. Specifically, this project focuses on the civil war in Cambodia during the period 1970?98 and that in Nepal during the period 1996?2006. We will empirically investigate the long-term consequences of the civil war on economic activities for households and firms. By comparing the microeconomic consequences of civil wars with varying intensities of economic damages, we will provide formal evidence that can be utilized to improve policymaking in terms of economic recovery policy. Thus, this project will contribute to the academic literature on civil war and evidence-based policymaking for post-civil war recovery efforts.
