An Economic Analysis of Chieftaincy and Patriarchy(2020_2_40_019)

Outline

In developing countries, there are many social institutions that support those in authority or with power who seemingly make inefficient decisions. This holds true even though such decisions are often closely related to important policies. This project aims at empirically investigating the mechanisms that maintain such social institutions as chieftaincy and patriarchy and the resulting economic consequences. It also explores the dynamic process in which social institutions evolve and/or in which economic inefficiency declines given social institutions.
