Human Movement and International Relations in Pacific Island Countries (2019_2_40_019)
Outline
The economies of many Pacific island countries (PICs) are highly reliant on the remittances of their citizens overseas that emigrate to other countries and regions, temporally and permanently. At the same time, these countries have experienced economic and social changes due to increasing immigration among PICs as well as from the outside. This study examines the institutional aspects of the migration from, to, and among PICs. It covers the bilateral, regional, and international agreements that govern the movement of persons, as well as domestic legal and regulatory frameworks in relevant fields.
