Comparative Analysis of National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights (2019_1_40_008)

Outline

In 2011, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights was unanimously endorsed. Since then, led by EU member states, many states have published their National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights in order to reflect and implement the UNGP in their concrete policies and measures. This research will examine and compare the NAPs already publicised and their policies and measures listed, from the points of their scopes, incentive structure, and position as investors or invested countries. The analysis will draw implications to the Japanese government (which is in the process of drafting a National Action Plan), Japanese businesses with overseas operations, and Japanese society as whole, dedicated to sustainable development goals based on a respect for human rights.
