Economic Development and Premature De-industrialization (2018_1_40_001)

Outline

The manufacturing sector has long been regarded as the "engine of economic growth". It has been pointed out, however, that employment by the sector has been rather stable in the world economy and that there is a trend toward de-industrialization not only in post-industrial economies but also late-latecomer countries, which is called "premature de-industrialization". This project aims to consider whether this concept holds true and whether it is effective for understanding the reality of developing countries by considering whether this 'premature de-industrialization' is really taking place, and if yes, what are the mechanisms behind it.

Period
