China's "New Type Urbanization" Policy and the Reform of the Economic System
Outline
This research project will study the on-going Chinese policy of“New type Urbanization". The purpose of this study is to examine the policy as an economic development strategy and the process of urbanization in specific cities. In this research, the members will assess the progress of China's economic reforms. The urbanization of China is not only a natural process of modernization or industrialization, but it is also a huge reform of the planned economy system in which there still remains as a rural / urban divide. The project members will study the urbanization aspects in their own specific field of regional development, labor migration, environmental issues, etc., and the project as a whole aims to clarify the policy's effect and the problems in judging the progress of the economic reforms.
