The IDE-JETRO is presenting a Policy Recommendation Seminar entitled: Enhancing Industry in Lao PDR; Services Liberalization, Simplification of Investment Procedures and Human Resource Development, to be held in Vientiane on Wednesday September 30, 2015.

The seminar was organized as the result of a request by H.E. Mr. Thongsing Thammavong, the Prime Minister of Lao PDR, to Mr. Hiroyuki Ishige, the Chairman of the JETRO. The seminar is based on JETRO and JETRO-IDE’s policy recommendations submitted to the Prime Minister on 4 July, 2015. The objective of this seminar is to familiarize government officials of Lao PDR with the recommendations and to break them down into more practical and pragmatic policies.

The policy recommendations were originally made at the request of the Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Thongsing Thammavong while meeting with Mr. Ishige on 5 March, 2015. The recommendations by JETRO and IDE-JETRO are composed of several issues such as: good connectivity between neighboring countries and achieving simplified procedures for cross-border transportation, liberalization of services, simplified investment procedures, “quality control (5S),” and construction of public housing for labor forces around special economic zones (SEZ).

The organizers expect that this seminar will create realistic policy views, and help Lao PDR to graduate from least developed country status by 2020.
