The Middle-Income Trap and Development Strategies in Asia in the Post-Globalization Era

On 15 December 2025, the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO),The World Bank, The Asahi Shimbun Company co-hosted an international Symposium titled “The Middle-Income Trap and Development Strategies in Asia in the Post-Globalization Era.”

This symposium featured Indermit Gill, Chief Economist & Senior Vice President for Development Economics, World Bank Group, as a keynote speaker for the speech titled “Creative Destruction and The Middle-Income Trap.” In the presentation sessions, three speakers gave presentations on the situations in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
