Towards Sustainable Development and International Cooperation: Papua New Guinea at 50 Years of Independence

On 10 September 2025, the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO) hosted an international Symposium titled “Towards Sustainable Development and International Cooperation: Papua New Guinea at 50 Years of Independence.”

The symposium featured Dr. Osborne Sanida, Director, Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (PNG NRI), as a keynote speaker for a comprehensive discussion on sustainable development in Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea marks its 50th anniversary of independence and is gaining attention as a resource exporting country. Through the presentations and discussion, we examined the challenges of achieving sustainable development, the current regulatory environment and climate change measures.
