Sustainable Development and Value Chains: Rethinking from Human Rights and the Environment
On 19 December 2024, the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO) hosted an international Symposium titled “Sustainable Development and Value Chains: Rethinking from Human Rights and the Environment.”
The symposium featured Dr. Surya Deva, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, as a keynote speaker for a comprehensive discussion on sustainable development from the perspective of the environment and human rights. The adverse impact of economic activities has a greater impact on people in the Global South. In the panel, we comprehensively discussed environmental due diligence, including extended producer responsibility with respect to waste, and human rights due diligence. How companies can work, and what policies should be implemented to enable cross-border value chains more sound, resilient and sustainable? On this page, you can access videos of the keynote addresses and panel discussions delivered at the symposium.
