International Nurse Migration from India to Non-English Speaking Countries

Outline

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a growing shortage of nurses worldwide. The recruitment of foreign nurses is likely to increase further in many countries in the future. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of international migration of Indian nurses to non-English speaking countries in comparison with their migration to English speaking countries. Specifically, it examines how nurses' backgrounds, migration patterns and career prospects differ when they migrate to non-English speaking countries, as opposed to English speaking countries. This is especially relevant, when nurses, who have received their professional education and training in English, move to other countries where advanced language operational skills are required.
