Formation process of the notion of state sovereignty and the national consciousness in the French West Africa
Outline
The French West Africa (AOF) was a federation of colonies France possessed in West Africa. From that federation, eight sovereign states were born: namely, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, and Benin. During the colonial era, the dominator French and the dominated Africans were incessantly competing each other. Through this struggling interaction, the establishment as well as the decomposition of the federation was made. In this study, we examine the historical process of this competition to find the origins of the notion of state sovereignty and the national consciousness the people of these eight countries appears to have in their mind.
