Feminist Movement and Debate on "Honor Killing" in Turkey
Outline
This study aims to reposition the debate over honor killings by Turkish feminists in the history of the feminist movement and thought by elucidating its process and issues from the perspective of Third World feminist theory. The focus of the analysis will be on the debate over the revision of the penal code to make honor killings more severely punishable, and on the process by which honor killings were positioned as a femicide. The study is based on literature study including analysis of publications of feminist organizations and interviews with feminist movement figures.
