Rethinking “One Country, Two Systems”(2021_2_40_004)

Outline

There are two types of "one country, two systems": the one that China conceived for "peaceful unification" with Taiwan and one that has been applied to Hong Kong and Macau. This study focuses on the differences and problems of the two types of "one country, two systems" and the speculations regarding political actors, including those of China, pro-democracy Hong Kong, Britain, Taiwan, and the United States. It aims to clarify the background that the trust of the international community in "one country, two systems" has be damaged by the Hong Kong national security law in June 2020.
