Disability and Development in the Middle East (2019_2_40_017)

Outline

Recent research at IDE on “Disability and Development” covers Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa. Comparative studies have shed light on the current situations of people with disabilities, government policies for such, and organizations for the disabled in these geographic areas. This new study will do similar research, but for the Middle East. In 2018, we held a preliminary study group and read a few books and articles for preliminary research. We understand the recent increased interest in and concern for women with disabilities around the world, and the newer research will focus on those that experience more disadvantages than women without disabilities, although the latter were living under heavier social inequality and in poorer situations than men without disabilities in this area.
