A co-authored paper by Meng Bo has been published in Scientific Data, a sister journal of Nature. This study has developed a time-series intercity industrial linkage database for 42 sectors from 2002 to 2017, covering the Greater China economy, including 335 cities in mainland China, as well as Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. By incorporating information on corporate ownership types (domestic, foreign, and Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan-based), the study reveals the inter-regional production network structure at the city level, which was previously undetectable through provincial-level analyses. This database is expected to have implications in various research and policy areas, such as supply chains, employment dynamics, urban economic strategies, environmental policies, and international trade and investment. Additionally, it may serve as a reference for other major economies in creating their own intercity input-output tables.
