Lao PDR met the graduation criteria of Least Developed Countries (LDC) for the first time at the 2018 Triennial Review. The graduation schedule in 2024 was delayed due to disruption by Covid-19. If recommended at the Triennial Review in 2024, the earliest graduation is currently 2026. The risks arising from Lao PDR's LDC graduation, e.g., termination or drastic reduction of aid, preferential measures, remain bold. LDC graduation will affect not only government operations but also the businesses of local and foreign firms operating in Lao PDR. Wide-ranging insights and perspectives are crucial in navigating these complicated challenges.

This seminar's objectives are threefold. First, it will bring together experts and scholars from IDE-JETRO, LASES, the National Assembly of Lao PDR, and ERIA to present their research findings on challenges and opportunities arising from LDC graduation in Lao PDR. Second, it will invite participants from government and private entities expected to be affected by the LDC graduation to listen to, discuss, and provide feedback from research from practical points of view. Third, a constructive discussion on LDC graduation and industrial development will be took place.
