Private Standards in the Context of Global Governance (APL Seminar Series on Global Governance)

Abstract

Transnational private governance has arisen in various areas such as food safety, chemical safety, forest protection, and labour rights monitoring, - in some of them governments have a long-standing and continuing commitment to regulation. Why do private initiatives emerge in these areas? Do private standards and regulation work complementary or independently? In this seminar, the cause of proliferation, roles, and challenges of private standards will be discussed.
