Administrative Divisions
The boundary is taken at the prefecture level at the end of the year 2003. There are 61 provinces and municipalities. 1
GDP
We take GDP from Socio Economic Statistical Data of 63 Provinces and Cities. It includes GDP at 2005 with the share of agriculture, manufacturing, and services. In order to disaggregate manufacturing and services GDP at province level, we utilize the microdata Annual Statistical Censuses & Surveys: Enterprises. Aggregating the microdata by region and sector, we obtain quotients for each region. Using these quotients, we obtain sectoral GDP by region.

- In January, 2004, there were two changes in administrative boundaries. One is in Lai Chau province and it was separated into Lai Chau and Dien Bien. The other is in Dac Lak and it was separated into Dac Lak and DaK Nong. At 2005, the total number of provinces was 63.
