Administrative Divisions

GEDA adopts the 17 primary-level administrative divisions (mostly provinces) from the Population Census 2005, excluding the Xaysomboun Special Zone abolished in 2006. The unavailability of sectorial data by region in 2005 was the most difficult part of the preparation of Laos’s data for GEDA. The closest available data were used to generate data on 2005. The detailed sources and methods used to generate these data are as follows.

GDP

Figures on sectorial labor by province were used to subdivide the sectorial value added available from the Statistical Yearbook 2006 1 (National Statistical Center) into 25 sub-sectorial value added. Figures on sectorial labor by province were first computed from the following sources:

(i) Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery: Provincial Report on Implementation of Socio-Economic Plan in 2005 2 .
(ii) Number of Public Servants: Population Census 2005 3 .
(iii). Other Industries: Economic Census 2006 4 (excluding firms established in 2006).
