Geo-Economic Dataset for Asia

Data Sources and Notes : Indonesia

Administrative Divisions

We adopted the secondary (regency and city) level administrative division instead of the primary (province) level, because province-level data are too large to analyze economic issues of Indonesia compared with that of other countries. We integrated five cities (Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and North Jakarta) into one region. In this dataset, the number of divisions is 436, which is based on 440 regencies and cities in 2005 (noting that the five cities are integrated into one in Jakarta).

Our downloadable data are aggregated at the province level because of copyright issues.

GDP

Data are taken from unpublished GDP figures by industry and regency, while city data are obtained from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), Indonesia. However, as some industrial sectors are not sufficiently detailed compared with the GSM Standard Industrial Classification, we used province-level value added data from SENSUS EKONOMI 2006 to divide industries.

Population/Area

Data are taken from BPS, while downloadable data are taken from the Statistical Yearbook 2007 .
