Data Sources and Notes : Bangladesh

Administrative Divisions

As of 2005, there were six divisions at the highest level of municipality: Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, Rajashahi, and Sylhet. In January 2010, the Rajashahi division was divided into two and the northern part was named Rangpur. There are currently seven divisions in total. Under these divisions, the level below municipality is called districts, of which there were 64 in 2005.

GDP

While there were no public GDP data for the district level in 2005, such data did exist until 2000, including agricultural GDP and district GDP. Therefore, we utilize these data at 2000 and estimate the dataset for 2005 based on national GDP growth. For manufacturing and services GDP, we aggregate sectorial employment and then divide total GDP by the share of employment in each sector in each district. We use Business Registration 2009 for this procedure.

Population/Area

Both data are taken from the Statistical Yearbook of Bangladesh 2006.
