Previous research
My research focus is Cambodia, particular its history and politics. Since Cambodia gained independence, Cambodian nationalism and political ideologies have tended to be reevaluated and reestablished in favor of the new regime each time a regime change occurs. I have used discourse analysis to investigate how the Cambodian people were involved and influenced by these circumstances, with a focus on historiography and the media since the independence period.
Current research projects
My current research focuses on the Cambodian media since the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements as well as the legitimacy of Cambodia’s dominant party, the Cambodia People’s Party (CPP). I examine the roles of the Cambodian media in Cambodian politics from the perspective of nationalism, by performing quantitative and qualitative analyses. I examine how CPP-led government has expressed their legitimacy, while authoritarian rule in Cambodia has become stricter in recent years.
