Indonesia Update in Tokyo: Political Economy and Climate Challenges in Indonesia

* This seminar will be held in-person only.

The Indonesia Project at the Australian National University (ANU) has hosted the annual “Indonesia Update” conference for over 40 years. This two-day academic event brings together scholars, policymakers, business leaders, and media professionals with a strong focus on Indonesia.

Given the significant investment by Japanese companies in Indonesia and the growing interest in the country, IDE-JETRO and ANU will host an “Indonesia Update” in Tokyo, with an expanded audience that includes the business community. The symposium aims to share insights from Indonesian experts and long-time researchers of Indonesia with Japanese stakeholders in business, policy, and academia.

This symposium consists of three key sessions. Session 1 “Indonesia Update” offers a comprehensive overview of the current political and economic situation in Indonesia. Session 2 “Business and Economy in Indonesia” focuses on the country's financial and investment environment, addressing fiscal challenges and opportunities for foreign and domestic investors. Session 3 “Climate Change in Indonesia” explores Indonesia’s climate policies and their economic impacts, including decarbonization strategies and implications for coal-related industries.

We look forward to your participation.
