Special Seminar

IDE-JETRO Seminar on "Analyses of Urbanization and Development in ASEAN from Space"

Urbanization, industrial location and development strongly and dynamically affect one another. Nonetheless, existing measures of urbanization depend largely on different, subjective and ambiguous criteria. In this seminar, we would first demonstrate how urbanization can be measured in a more consistent manner using remote sensing data. We would then present two in-depth studies of different urbanization and development processes in Thailand and Vietnam, two of most rapidly growing production bases in ASEAN. Finally, a case study of the role of public transportation on sustainable and inclusive development in Sweden would be presented as an example of best practice in developed countries.
