Indonesia at a Juncture: Evaluation of the Jokowi Government and Challenges for the Next Government

Outline

In Indonesia, the Joko Widodo (Jokowi) government will be replaced by a new government in October 2024, completing its two-term or 10-year administration. We will first evaluate the politics and economy under the Jokowi administration and identify the problems left behind by the regime. Secondly, based on the analysis of Jokowi’s government, we will assess campaign activities by political parties and presidential candidates as well as the voting behavior of electorates in the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election. Finally, we will summarize the features of the new government. Through these analyses, it is expected that we can assess the achievement of the Jokowi administration in Indonesian history and provide keys to understanding issues in Indonesia, especially under the newly elected president.
