Previous research
Until July 2024, I was primarily engaged in research to support the overseas expansion of Japanese companies, focusing on Asia and the United States. This work was conducted at JETRO headquarters (Research Department) and at overseas offices, including Bangkok and New York. Currently, I collaborate with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), an international organization headquartered in Jakarta and am engaged in policy-oriented research for ASEAN.
Current research projects
I conduct research on the resilience and restructuring of global supply chains (international production networks), with a particular focus on East Asia and ASEAN. The international trade environment is undergoing significant transformation, driven by rising geopolitical risks, the resurgence of protectionism, responses to sustainability challenges such as decarbonization, and the advancement of digitalization, all of which are increasing uncertainty. In this context, I am interested in how global supply chains will be reorganized and in the industrial policies that can enable ASEAN countries to achieve economic upgrading in the process.
