Previous research
I obtained my BA from Peking University and my MA and PhD from Waseda University. Before joining the JETRO Institute of Developing Economies in 2011, I conducted research at Waseda University and Hokkaido University. I am a political scientist with a particular interest in contemporary Chinese politics. My research focuses on inter-governmental relations, policy studies, state–society relations, and urban studies. I have published two books and authored book chapters and papers in various languages.
Current research projects
My current project focuses on the discretionary power of township and village leaders in the process of urbanization and digitalization.
