Special Seminar

IDE-JETRO Seminar on "Impact of China’s increasing demand for agro produce on agricultural production in the Mekong region"

Fresh tropical fruit exports from Mekong region (Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) to China increased rapidly in recent years. Improving connectivity and economic integration in the region have expanded local farmers’ opportunities to access to one of the biggest markets in the world. However, preference of the Chinese market differs from those of developed countries, which affects production processes and supply chain structures. The seminar presents how the rapid growth in China’s fresh fruit demand exerts impacts on agricultural development in Indochina.
