The Duterte Administration of the Philippines, since its inauguration in end-June 2016, has attracted attentions regarding issues such as President Duterte’s remarks, territorial waters, and peace negotiations with Islamic rebels. At the same time, the recent strong economic condition and upgraded credibility made the country re-cast a spotlight as a favorable FDI destination.

Under the seminar title “Reviewing the First Year of the Duterte Administration,” we invite Mr. Manuel Mogato (Reuters Philippines) as the presenter, who has a long career especially in the areas of Philippines’ national defense and social stability/safety. Based on his presentation we will provide an opportunity to better understand and broadly discuss the above issues considering the influences on FDIs and the domestic economy, with two discussants from GRIPS and IDE-JETRO.
