Citation analysis of Japanese studies on developing countries: extention of the database's languages and an approach based on fields of the sauces

Outline

This project attempts to succeed and develop the project "Scientometric approach to Japanese studies on developing countries" that is now under progress. We will tackle two challenges in the new project.

First, we will construct a fuller database by inputting data that are written in many kinds of languages. At present we are building a database of bibliographies in artcles published on Ajia Keizai. The bibliographies include literature and materials whose languages are quite diverse. Because of limits of our linguistic capacity, only Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean data are inputted into the database and organized. We will supplement it by adding data written in other languages.

Second, we will conduct a new analysis taking into account difference of source articles in their fields and target areas. The goals of our ongoing project are not only to show overall characteristics of the bibliographies in Ajia Keizai's artcles but also to reveal the changes between the 2000s and the 2010s. However, we need to more closely examine reasons for the changes. Any journal consists of several fields or groups. Since Ajia Keizai is highly interdisciplinary and its articles argues various countries and regions, the variety of its articles is particularly wide. Therefore it is necessary to clarify the change of citation is general across many parts of fields and target areas or due to shift in composition of fields and target areas of articles published on Ajia Keizai.
