Outline

Since the 2010s, regional capital participation is progressing in the ASEAN economy, and the commercial banking sector of the ASEAN5 countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) has been largely transformed. What challenges do the recent changes in the international economic environment bring to the ASEAN financial system, and how are the challenges and expansion of regional capital participation related to each other?

This research project aims to understand the current situation of the ASEAN commercial banking sector, including regulations, industrial organization of the financial institutions, and trends of the major banks in the region, taking into account the changes in the financial macroeconomic environment.

This project is expected to explore and present the position of what the transformations identified here have in the historical premise and economic growth process of the ASEAN economy.
