Efficiency and Occupational Safety in the Trucking Industry in Thailand: A view from Personnel and Organizational Economics

Outline

It is important to understand the role of service sectors in order to enhance productivity in the manufacturing industries in Southeast Asia. We expect an increasing importance of obtaining insight into the cost structure of the services industries in the region as a result of the rapid industrial development. However, there is not yet sufficient economic research on the trade-off between efficiency and safety in the service sector in developing and emerging economies. This research project conducts a case study and empirical analysis of the trucking industry in Thailand. In FY2015, this research project plans to conduct a small-scale questionnaire survey of Thai trucking firms, and in FY2016, the research project will perform a statistical analysis using the dataset constructed in FY2015-2016.
