FY 2014/2015 Research Topic: B-1-07
Product Related Environmental Regulations and Trade

Outline

Environmental and health related regulations for products, or product-related environmental regulations (PRERs), imposed by developed countries have raised concern among exporting countries. If exported products do not satisfy these regulatory requirements, they cannot be placed on the regulated markets, resulting in potential technical barriers to trade. While PRERs have tended to become more demanding and have a wider variety, concerns are more prevalent among developing countries where a lack of capital or technical capacity to meet the PRERs is observed. This project examines the governments’ and firms' PRERs adoption strategy within green supply chain management in Asia.
