International Symposium

Business and Human Rights and the Environment: Advancing Due Diligence
-2023 Update of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct-

※ This symposium will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and online).

The registration is closed.

On June 8, 2023, an update of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises was approved and released in the OECD Ministerial Council. In the last update in 2011, a chapter on human rights was created to align with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The update this time, the first in 12 years, reflects changes and developments in the nature of corporate social responsibility in the global economy and society during that time, and indicates a direction to take in the future. As seen in the UN General Assembly resolution on July 28, 2022, access to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment is a universal human right, and the environment and human rights are indivisible. In what way shall businesses respect human rights and mitigate adverse environmental impacts by advancing due diligence?
In this symposium, welcoming Allan Jorgensen, Head of the OECD Responsible Business Conduct Center, as keynote speaker, Professor Anita Ramasastry, former member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, and experts and practitioners will discuss how businesses can advance due diligence elaborated by the OECD Guidelines. We eagerly look forward to your participation.
