The effectiveness of environmental provisions in trade agreements by Professor Jean-Frédéric Morin
Date&time:
Thursday, the 7th of March, 13:30 to 14:45
Venue:
Abstract
Trade agreements increasingly include ambitious environmental provisions. Despite the encompassing nature of these provisions, studies on their consequences remain scarce. Until recently, the main factor hindering research in this area was the lack of reliable data. This presentation will discuss a new dataset, the TRade & ENvironmental Database (TREND). This dataset documents 298 types of environmental provisions in 775 trade agreements signed between 1947 and 2022. The presentation will discuss the impact of these provisions on 1) international environmental cooperation; 2) domestic regulations; 3) bilateral trade flows; 4) aid allocation to developing countries 5) CO2 emissions.
