Labor Force Participation and Unemployment in Southern Africa

Outline

The objective of this research project is to explore the decision to participate in the labor force and the mechanism behind unemployment in South Africa. This objective will be achieved by:
1. Collecting survey data to form the basis for a better understanding of the South African unemployment puzzle.
2. Conducting interviews to gain an intuitive understanding of the labor market institutions and people's behavior.
This year, we will observe the changes in labor market status and explore the links between age, experience and behavioral factors that form the basis of job search decisions.
